hey doc,

I'm Tony. I was born and breed in the Great State of Michigan in 1962. In 1999 I started contract work in South Carolina, met girl, got married (instant family), first marriage. Now I'm considered a "damned yankee". You see a "good yankee" is one that goes to the south, spends all their money and leaves. Anyway, my Michigan home is currently up for sale by Remax, and I'm now permanently a "southerner" for what that's worth.

Keep crunching

I'll chime in as well.

I'm Jeremy. 27, live in Reno Nevada. Married, 3 kids, work for the City of Reno as a 911 and police/fire dispatcher. Been crunching Seti since 99, and enjoy doing my part of the contribution. I'm also an amateur radio operator (Ham ), enjoy 4x4ing, and playing on the computer.

Wow, now I feel like im posting a personal ad. Hehe. Good to meet you Doc and Tony.

Hey Doc & Tony,

This looks cool to do so I am jumping in too...

I'm Mike, Born: Memphis, TN in 1969. Moved to 'O' town FL in 1970 (Dad was in the Navy), been here ever since. I help run one of the largest power sport dealers in Central FL. It started out as a hobby while going to college but turned into a full time thing, 15 years so far. I manage the DMS (Dealer Management System) servers, and the collection of computers they use here. So when someone tells me to fix their computer, it means I got to go and get the porn ads off of it. My second job I have, involves a friend who has a computer wholesale business. I occasionally help him out as well. Hobbies: Anything that involves race fuel and an engine, two or four wheels optional.

What Tony said,

Mike

So Doc, ....tell me the truth....Don't sugar coat it......Is there a cure for my seti addiction???

This disease started simply enough. One puter crunching away, and then suddenly little puters started appearing all over the house. I've been buying puters I can't afford. How can I make it stop??

Tony, I have come to the conclusion that It's no use. It is worse than drugs or cigarettes. OMG I think I need help, hehe. And before you know it you will be hearing ads on the radio on how to get Seti help. We need to enlist Dan to make one for us.

My name is David. I was born in Charleston, IL in 1947 but soon(3 yrs old) moved to the great state of Washington, just north of Seattle. I have been a logger, airplane inspector, light weapons infantryman, construction electrician, truck driver, and casino dealer. I bought my first computer in 1979 and now have 5. The latest just arrived Friday, an Athlon64 X2 3800 with 2Gs of memory and 120G hard drive. I am having problems installing Slackware Linux on it as the motherboard is too new. I just ordered Windows XP64.

Keep crunching,

Hello all,

And a special hello to you doc. Thank you for taking this initiative. :)

My name is Bjørn. I'm a middle-aged guy from Norway, born late in 1959. I have two siblings - both older than me; a brother and a sister, and my mother is alive. Apart from what you can read in my profile, I live a very different life from most others I know: I have no wife, children, cat or dog, house or flat/apartment, car, cottage/hut, boat or job. LOL! I work as a volunteer for free (no pay, only fun), while I'm trying to get ends meet from day to day with a minuscle disability/welfare pension.

On the side, I study history. More as a hobby nowadays. And I have many interests - although I don't get time for half of them. Right now, amateur astronomy takes up large parts of my free time. I managed to scrape together just enough to afford a small telescope. You know, it's a very special sensation to realize that you're actually seeing another planet with your own eyes! It's an awesome feeling. Yes, we've all seen it on pictures and TV, but to see Jupiter and Saturn with your own blue - that just have to be experienced! :)

Sorry to say, english isn't my native language and I apologize for any typos or spelling errors that might occur in my posts. I try to read through them before submitting and often edit them in the next minutes after submitting, if I see errors. My vocabulary consists mainly of what I've learned from american movies through the years (especially Sci-Fi films), from reading computer manuals as a programmer in my previous life, and some public schooling. A great help too is a pop-up dictionary on my PC. But sadly, my vocabulary has huge shortcomings in areas that are not so usual to show in movies. In other words, I learned english from watching John Wayne, Clint Eastwood and Spock - not "Wok with Yan"... (So now you know why my english is so western-action-sci-fi flavored, and why I'm silent if you ask me to list the names of everything in your fridge.) LOL!

Happy crunching.

Hi im Simon, live in england, enjoy building electrical and explosive stuff, more power the better, fortunatly there is a big field behind the house which the farmer lets me use to test such items. Various forms of cannon made out of drainpipe and/or pringles tubes are my speciality. Made one which would fire frozen oranges through 1 1/2 inch plywood, that one was awesome, most of the rest take about 5 shots before they rupture. Also had an attempt at building a Tesla Coil, caught fire during testing, forgot to sheild it from itself and they fantastic voltages it created fryed the systems and they combusted. Cost me the princely sum of £3.48 to build though so wasn't too distraught. Will make another sometime though and get pictures of that one.
Well hope i havent scared you off.

Yours in crunching

Simon

It's good this site's language isn't spanish, german or french, because then I'd have to use Babelfish or Free Translation all the time. ;)

I used free translation on a german site once, was on it for five months before anyone realised i wasnt german, must be good.

I recognized the computer behind that translation at once, because of the stiff sentences, somewhat outdated courtecy form and superfluous words.

'Puter: Er hvordan mitt Norsk? Deres engelsk er meget god, bedre enn det meste engelsk faktisk, godt gjort folk.

How I'd write it: Hvordan er min norsk? Din engelsk er meget god - bedre enn de fleste engelskmenn, faktisk. Godt gjort!
