The irony for me in all this is the initial insult I meted out to Fuzzy Hollynoodles was too strong I admit now but actaully I really thought she was having a go at me and people like me for helping others in NC. So rage got the better of me which it should never have done and now I am going.

Finally I did read misfits want for an apology from me which I duly did. I did rather think he would not publish as he did do especially as Fuzzy Hollynoodles had said Europe was asleep. Clearly I could not respond in time. I was going to apoligise anyway as peace was close, I felt, with others and I thought I would like that too. But hey its over now. I never intended harm.

I'm sorry it turned out this way and to see you leave, Tigher. I admire your courage to step forward and admit your guilt, and apologize. That was necessarry. However, now that it's done, we can look forward again, right? It's no longer necessarry for you to leave - if you in the future will keep the peace.

You've helped many users in NC and could continue doing that, but I respect your decision to cut the conncetion entirely, if you choose to do so. But there is an alternative to leaving, you know. You can choose to stay low or even stay away from the forums, for a while or permanent (if you so wish), while at the same time continue to contribute to science by keep crunching.

What do you say; peace, science, crunch...? :)

I tried to stay out of this whole thing, minus one or two early posts when this first started, but I do wish to congratulate you on stepping up and taking the responsibility of your actions. What has happened is now in the past, you've owned up to your actions and I, for one, respect that. I really don't hear anyone demanding that you leave Seti or the forums but I can see why you would want to leave.

As Prognatus suggested, lay low for a period of time and take a break from the boards instead of cutting all ties in the heat of the moment. It's ultimately your decision but consider the alternatives first.

One of the (many) things I dislike about Pascal has been his reaction when someone threatens to leave SETI/BOINC for whatever reason (frustration, being attacked, etc.). He would tell the person good-bye then add some stupid statement like, "Woo-woo! More woo woos for me!" I am never happy to see a cruncher leave. But even though some of the folks you attacked have forgiven you, I am still angry about the way you treated them, as they are my friends. If you had just read the earlier posts that gave rise to their posts, which you found offensive, this might have all been avoided. In fact, a little research or simply asking for background as to why these folks acted as they did would be prudent for anyone who is quick to criticize.

I will say, Tigher, that you are not alone. When someone abused these boards and folks here reacted, there have been many who came here and complained (without understanding) about those who were simply reacting to the abuse. Many of these people are still here, so I suppose you may as well stay; it's your choice.

When I read about Misfit unraveling the secret, in the romantic-novelesque fashion it all occurred, I couldn't believe it. I know you're a nice guy, you may get rough, but we all can.
I did congratulate Misfit, not because he caught YOU, but because he CAUGHT you.. I bet that was a daunting task.

SETI needs you. It needs more than your PCs crunching. You're a good help out there in NC. It takes great courage for what you've done, stepping forward. That alone speaks a lot for you. Let this be a lesson for all of us. Let's work on these forums and make them a great place to chat/discuss/learn.

Ok, time for me to contribute to this thread.

Tigher, I understand that you feel very embarrassed, because you were caught red handed. And I understand that you feel so embarrassed that you prefer to leave the project, and I won't beg you neither to stay or stay away, because I respect your decision, no matter what you finally decide to do.

But I always have had the philosophy of life, that we can learn from our experiences and specially our mistakes. If I should try to sum up, what one might be able to learn from this, I also think of how I, myself, entered the community here on these boards.

I started here on the NC board, and read and posted there, but after some months I got tired of the perpetual threads with the subjects "My client doesn't download or upload", "What's wrong with this WU?", and "Where's my credit", and when you have been in NC for some months, you'll find out that these questions come up again and again. And I had occasionally followed links to the Cafe, and had read here a little. So I started to read more threads in the Cafe, and after having read a lot, I started to post. I felt I almost knew the regulars, Misfit, NeoAmsterdam, Dogbytes, Carl Cuseo, Timmy or Captain, who I knew from NC, Siran also, from reading their posts, but the fact was, that they didn't know me! So my first posts were pretty much ignored!

I could then have started to post in a frenzy to draw attention to myself, as I have seen some here do! But I just kept on posting in threads where I felt I had something to say, and gradually the others here started to notice my posts and greet me. And slowly I got a reputation and a credibility, which gave me the position, I have today.

So, what I have seen, not only from you but from a lot of other people, who start here, they first don't read before they post, so they enter in a middle of something, they don't understand, and they seem out of sync with what's going on. Second, they start to post in a frenzy to get noticed, also because they really think themselves, that they have a lot to offer to the community, so they disregard what's going on and start with threads and posts, that only serve their own agenda. What they don't understand is, that they enter a well-established community, where the regulars have been around for longer than themselves, and where things are pretty much in balance and people have parts to play in different ways. By all their posts and threads they disturb the balance, which happens all places in life, not only here in cyberspace, so the regulars have a tendency to create a resistance, because the balance is disturbed. Third, people can also start to post as they also are wellknown entities here, so they think, now after they have read Misfit's, NeoAmsterdam's, Captain's, Siran's, my posts, that we also know them. We don't, in fact we haven't seen them before! So, just as in real life, when a stranger enter a group of people, who know each other well and start to act like they are a well-known person in that group, they'll get ignored in best case or mobbed in worst case! This is not because the group is a clique, but because the newcomer doesn't sound out the situation in the group.

You did some of these faults and I have seen many come and have done the same! So you are not the only one! :-) And many of these people have come and disappeared again, of different reasons.

I really wish people would read a lot more and sound out the situation here, before they start to post and think, they are a part of this community, and my advise for all newcomers will be: Read, read, and read! Also to learn about the unwritten codes and standards, that are here and to get to know the regular people here, so they know who to say what to and who not to adress! And then don't come and act like they are our long lost brothers/sisters, that come here, but let us get to know them also! Just like in real life, where people also need some space.

But, Tigher, to get back to you. I think you have contributed over in NC with helping people and I think you should continue this. But you must also accept that there are other people there, who have a lot of help to offer and who knows very much. Your comment about what made you tick from a post from me; that you apparently felt stung by my comment to Ageless about wannabe's, which was a comment to him feeling bad about being minus'ed, even he has done a huge work with helping people, and his posts were minus'ed unjustfully. So, feeling stung by this comment, you might be one of the people, who minus'ed him, I don't know, but these people were those I refered to! The envious and those who can't stand the fact that he knows so much! So, if you were one of these, who minus'ed him, I'll leave it up to your own conscience, but your decision about creating accounts to troll with, was a bad decision! You need to owe your own your decisions and actions!

I thought we had reached some kind of mutual respect, as I saw your comments to some of my posts in NC, and I also think we have sorted some things out, when I was communicating with your alter ego, so I don't have any axes to grind with you. I won't get mushy either, as I think, and this is my oppinion, that you are not sorry for creating troll accounts and posting as a troll, you are sorry that you got caught! I think, that you wouldn't have exposed ourself, but have saved the accounts to the next time you thought you would create a little chaos! So, you now know, also if you read my responses to Prognatus, that we have seen a lot here in the past! So you also can see the reasons why we sometimes seem a little "quick on the trigger" towards newcomers, but we have our reasons! I, myself, have developed a quite accurate troll-alert, and I react on it!

And, at last, just for the record, no, I'm not a queen, a high priestess, or a queen bee, who sit here and pull the strings. I am myself, I post where I want, and I say what I want! Yes, the cat in my avatar has newly sharpened claws, but I'm in general nice and positive towards people! I think you'll agree with this, when you read my posts! The only part I might agree to play here would be the pet of the Cafe! I'm not the babe or the queen, as the other people around here would take me down, if I tried to act like that! Believe me, I have also seen that happen!

But I have my friends backs and they have mine! That's what friendship is about, and yes, I have got offboard friendships with some here! Not only in cyberspace but also in real life!
