The ratings is, in my oppinion, an obsolete function, after we got the Ignore function. It was created last year as a way to make some people's posts (read: Guido's posts!) collapse, and with this invisible after a certain numbers of negative ratings. Later we got the Ignore function, so if somebody post something, I don't want to read, I can put that person on Ignore. The ratings developed into something used to harrass others with, where it's the person posting, not the post itself that's being rated!

I don't know why this has developed into a schoolyard bully thing, that "we don't like this person, so we mob him/her!", in school with physical harrassments and here with the ratings!

Some people here has been a victim of these harrassments, where no matter what that person post, it is being rated negatively!

Funny enough, when I look on the boards of the other projects, people can post to each other in a proper manner and very rarely getting rated, either positive or negative. This phenomenon only exists here on the Seti boards! This is weird! What kind of people comes here, who doesn't come on the other boards? And why is this behaviour acceptable here?

Fuzzy, thanks for the note from Ageless. And, I agree with what he said in that the negative rating should be made obsolete and taken away and only have the positive. The positive rating and the ignore feature should be all that's needed. All the negative rating does is cause "hate and discontent"....

I've been "away" for awhile, every blue moon logging in to sample the "tone" and maybe catch a few science links, but nothing ever written here has ever made me want to detach from SETI. Just my two centavos.
