I recently set up my 2nd computer for BOINC and
was wondering is my account now considered a "farm"?
or more specifically how many comps would be
classified as a "farm"?

Thanks for the imput!!

I think what you have is a *smallholding* rather than a farm. Greater than a farm would be a ranch??

It's all a matter of one's opinion...

To those of us with only 1 attached, possibly... (but not my opinion)

If you had, say 3 or 4, then I would say you did have one...

Others that have more attached may not consider it a "farm" until "x" amount of 'puters are attached...

I can't speak for anyone else here, it's like I said, a matter of one's opinion

(Not sure this helped or answered your question, but I hope that it did) ;-)
No matter where you go, there you are...

If you like to think about your 2 computers as a farm, then go ahead!

I only have one computer also (old and slow), but a farm seems to be these people who run several machines simultaneously.

I wish I had kept my old machines rather than junked them, they would've made decent crunchers... but that was before I discovered BOINC...

Are two fruit trees an orchard?
Are two fish a school?
Are two cows a herd?

You've got a pair of crunchers.

That's just my opinion. ;-)

Call it a farm if you want to.

According to my Sex Education teacher at Yale, 4 - 17 seperate CPU's (not counting dual core) are considered a 'farm'. 18 + is considered a 'ranch'.

4 sheep = a bunch
3 sheep = a group
2 sheep = a pair
1 sheep = ewe
It is a sad sad day when someone takes your spoon away from you...

In computers. 2 computers makes a network but many networkers will scoff at 2 PCs as a network. Maybey 2 PCs crunching can be a farm technically but many will not see it that way. To some you will have to have more than the person that you
are talking to. To some it will be idealogical. In other words how far have you gone to acheive farmdom.
Here is a quick test:
-If you have a toaster that crunches for Boinc then you might be a farmer.
-If you have more PCs than you have outlets then you might be a farmer.
-If the words" Honey I got the electric bill!" makes you think you've been caught then you might be a farmer.
-If finding a new addition to your computer system was found in the dumpster then you might be a farmer.
-If you've ever payed an electrician(or done it yourself) to put in multiple 20 amp receptacles then you might be a farmer.
-If a 1% increase in productivity on 1 PC translates into a 20% increase overall then you might be a farmer.
-If you power up your Crunchers and the power dims in the neighbors house then you might be a farmer.
-If your stack of computers is taller than you are then you might be a farmer.
-If you don't have to turn on the heater in the winter then you might be a farmer.
What else does anyone else have to add to this?

In the end: It is your system. It is working. be proud of it. call it what you want.

May I step in here?

-If tropical birds nesting in your garden in winter then you might be a farmer.
-If your house is the only one in the village which isn't covered with snow in the winter then you might be a farmer.
-If the employees of your eletricity board know you by name then you might be a farmer.
-If there are plans to build a peak-load electricity generation plant in your sparsely populated area then you might be a farmer.
