I have been running seti home since the scheme started for home users. ~I regularly visited the stats to see how well I am doing in the ranking. But I decided to check out my ranking last week and found I couldn't access them, and I have to download a new program boinc or what ever its called, which I did and nothing, it locked up my computer, so I got rid of it. I am only a lonely house wife and I enjoyed Seti home, and felt I was doing something for mankind. But I am totally fed up and now very disappointed, I am thinking of packing the whole thing up. I am not interested in the project anymore. I don;t understand the new progam. |

In fact, it is not that difficult. Here are the steps to perform: To attach to the project, install Boinc, run it, open Boinc Manager, go to the tab "Projects" and use the button "attach to new project". In the popup window, fill in the URL and account key you got by e-mail. Once this is done, you will start using Boinc/S@H. Normally, the rest should follow. If any problem persists, don't hesitate to come back. Good luck ! It would be easy to say "BOINC? Ain't more complicated than Seti classic was!". Many of us (me included) work daily with computers and lack sometimes the empathy for people who don't. In fact installing of BOINC and attaching to a project is trickier than Seti classic was. And the Seti@home website doesn't offer an easy to follow step-by-step manual. But there exists something of the sort: With tremendous efforts Paul & friends have created a real BOINC-encyclopedia, the BOINC Wiki. Pia, have a look in here: Paul's WIKI. Instead of making a great fuss now, I just beg you, to take a second effort. Read in the WIKI and - hopefully - make BOINC Seti run. And then begin enjoying it again. Just like me, some weeks ago, when I moved from classic to BOINC. :-)= Greybeard All about BOINC: BOINC-Wiki (by Paul D. Buck) |

If you still have trouble, post the details about the problem, and help will probably be available (the hard problems may take a while to sort out though). BOINC WIKI |

Well, I finally got it working, and now I find that it isn't interesting any more. It's all ego issues I know, but so what. With Classic Seti, I had a large number of Work units. Around 15000 to brag about. All gone. With Classic Seti, I could link my web page to a nice bragging page to show this. All gone. Starting from scratch. So, I probably won't bother setting it up on the 5 other machines that are currently running Seti Classic. So when that is discontinued, such is life. Not fed up, just bored. |
