Microsoft fights back. With its own Virtual Earth it tries to take on Google Earth. Only with old pictures and a couple of maps with strange things in them.

The Register points out a couple of blatant problems with Virtual Earth.

If you live outside the USA, too bad, no satellite pictures of your homestead yet. We don't exist, remember? ;)

Have a play with it here, then shrug and return quickly to Google Earth. :)

Yes, that is bad! And no aerial photos when you get really close!

And yes, us outside of USA don't exist!

So much about "globalization" ;)

I really wonder about all this more important than London towns in the UK. At least they got it right with Berlin, but the resolution really sucks.

I'll stick with google, they seem to be not just some small local business ;)

It's bad, but at least you can get the whole world.

Just zoom all the way out!

Problem with that is that Microsoft says that Antarctica is bigger in size than all the other continents and islands on this world.

Antarctica is roughly 58 times the size of the United Kingdom.
Percent of Earth's Land: 8.9%... Not according to Microsoft.. :)

Hi Megaman! Good to be back? For real this time or are you only taking a break from your community service?

Ha! Try looking for the Apple headquarters on Micro$oft's virtual earth site --
it shows a picture of an empty field from about 15 years ago!

The one that's smack-dab right in the middle of the picture.[/font]

Now in addition to Google Earth they have created Google Moon. Make sure you zoom in all the way! It seems that the Google Copernicus Center is hiring. The people at Google have a sense of humor.

Yep! I wonder if this little vehicle can be seen, if you zoom in enough!
