Hi Simon and wellcome!

As Saenger replied to you, you can start a BOINC project yourself, look at the BOINC site.

And I don't think you'll get very far with Visual Basic, so I suggest you learn C++ and/or php, which are far more useful programming languages in professional programming as they offer tools more needed. Are you familiar with OOP (Object Oriented Programming)? This is usefull knowledge too.

But I like your idea! But you can search the 'net to see if it already is existing.

For me, I participate in BOINC projects as a result of being interested in distributed computer systems and I learned about the Seti Classic programme when I worked on a project in clustering systems. Now I participate in Seti@Home, Einstein@Home and LHC@Home, which I share 100 - 100 - 500.

If only I was a much much better programmer and had experience with C++, had some servers, more bandwidth and an idea - then I'd propably start something ;) If I did get an idea, I'd propably have rely on some programming help - it most likely being open source ;)

Which could be an option for Simon - starting a boinc project with help from interested coders on sourceforge

Simon, C, C++, and C# is not easily learned, that's why people take classes! And OOP is not easily understood neither! But good luck!

It would maybe be an idea for you to join communities on sites like C# Corner and C/C++ Users Journal, where you can get code and exchange code with others! These sites may be more usefull for you than here.

I have got a lot of good ideas from C# Corner myself.

Thanks, Fuzzy Wuzzy! >:-) I was hoping I wasn't the only one annoyed. When I saw the first one, I figured it was imbedded. But, it came up a second time and then I went, "Uhggg!". Sigs with 2 or 3 stats graphics is bad enough, but a BIG pic like that.... Well.... >:-(

Siran, as we discussed over here, he can, of course, have the sig he wants, but as Paul D. Buck said there:

I like to see the signatures. But, there are some that are a little, um, enthusiastic. Yours was one. I did not feel threatened, I just thought less of you...

Others want to have large, blinking, garish, signatures; but it does not reflect on me if that is what they, or you, want to do. It reflects badly on them, and you, if you choose to do those things.

If you want to be taken seriously, you have to present yourself well. "Loud", garish, flashing lights and signes usually means I don't read what you are writing because my old tired eyes can't filter that stuff that well ...

So, I vote for it to be off ... but, if that is how you want to present yourself ... go ahead ...

and I can only agree with him! People can have their whole family photo album .oO(Uh oh, let's better not give Tigher "good ideas"!!!), for what I care, as I can have, and do have, sigs turned off! And if the whole posting style gets annoying I can put that person on Ignore!

But I think Simon became a "little" overenthusiastic, and I don't think he wants to be ignored, as he asked for peoples oppinions and help earlier in the thread.

I agree with Paul. I remember wayyyyyyyyy back, when I was a NOOB here, I displayed 4 different stat graphics and someone mentioned that they were annoying. I didn't argue, I just sought out a different strategy. I was pointed in the direction of a graphic that shows ALL. I started using it, and am using one now.

I have no problem with sigs in general. It's the, in Paul's word "garish", ones I get annoyed with. I like seeing the different sigs as long as they're kept to a reasonable size.

If you don't want to turn off all sigs, only the annoying ones, Firefox and Mozilla users have a solution. :)

There us a plugin for Firefox/Mozilla called Adblock that allows you to block individual images or pieces of code (javascript, flash, etc...) on any page. See a sig you don't like, right click on it and block it. You can even block images from entire domains if you like. (Very good defense against users such as Guido)

Thank you Heffed, I'll see into this! I have blocked sigs as the threads takes forever to load compared to without sigs, but I'll like to see some now and then!

Hey thanks Heffed. I remember, in Firefox, being able to block all graphics from a specific site with a right click. I didn't know about any plug-in though. I'm using Mozilla on a non-Windoze PC, so I would have to look around for a plug-in.

I don't remember how I discovered it. Could have been a tip from someone here, just don't remember. I used it on AM a few months back with his objectionable graphic showing my info from his site. You know who I mean....
