After a week of trying I finally got this user "unfriendly" program to run. It did its computations & shows 100% complete. There is no "connect now" feature like the old SETI at home screensaver had? Also it will not autoconnect. When I'm connected to the internet- it does not detect this? Its at 100% forever & will never send the result to the SETI server. I get errors like "Deferring communication with project for 4 days 29hours 52 minutes". What was a major and unprecedent accomplishment with the distributed computer network- has become a disaster with this new program. There must be hundreds of complaints on file on this site. On the old SETI at home program the user didn't have to be some "nerd" like geek to operate the software properly. Lets hope the aliens out there are having better luck trying to detect us than we are at detecting them! |

be patient... make sure to set your preferences.... lots of people complain because they are too impatient and they want everything NOW, which, like the rest of life, just wont happen |

It is a BETA. Its supposed to have bugs an run unsmoothly. When all that is gone it will be final. But I do agree its not the smoothest software ive run. There are plenty of GUI stuff to fix but those things are a bit down on the priority list. |

Me thinks the "admins" at seti/boinc are lost or don't care!... Maybe more of the NSF grant that funds Boinc should be used for needed HW at seti/boinc (as that's the most visable project), and to pay for good worker bees and not the fat cats on top! (Oh Dr Dave!) NSF is funded by US taypayer dollars, so it's "our tax dollar at work" "BOINC is supported by the National Science Foundation through award SCI/0221529." > > Apples and oranges and ur so funny Woody Yup, one project seems to be run by people who have a clue, keep crunchers in the loop, and have provided a fairly stable base for the last month. The other is Seti.... I agree - apples and oranges! lol |
