I downloaded a few workunits before outage and one of them has completed during the outage so I disabled network access to BOINC until the outage is over, but now it fails to upload a result. 12.7.2005 22:27:03||Resuming network activity 12.7.2005 22:27:03||May run out of work in 10.00 days; requesting more 12.7.2005 22:27:33|SETI@home|Temporarily failed upload of 15ja05ac.10738.5696.740918.225_1_0: -106 12.7.2005 22:27:33|SETI@home|Backing off 1 minutes and 0 seconds on upload of file 15ja05ac.10738.5696.740918.225_1_0 12.7.2005 22:28:34|SETI@home|Started upload of 15ja05ac.10738.5696.740918.225_1_0 12.7.2005 22:28:55|SETI@home|Temporarily failed upload of 15ja05ac.10738.5696.740918.225_1_0: -106 12.7.2005 22:28:55|SETI@home|Backing off 1 minutes and 0 seconds on upload of file 15ja05ac.10738.5696.740918.225_1_0 I thought "OK it has a lot of results in upload queue", and I went to the server status page and saw that only one result was vaiting for validation. I think others have the same problem. |

The server was down over night and anytime that happens it takes a while for the system to catch up. Semper Eadem So long Paul, it has been a hell of a ride. Park your ego's, fire up the computers, Science YES, Credits No. |

Different applications run on different servers so in this case we can presume the download server was working fine while the upload server was getting a lot of hits due to the recent outage, this usually clears in a day or two. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

OK, finally uploaded the result. I just left it to count down the time it automatically predicted and made sure that I'm connected at exactley that time. I think the server schedules automaticaly when it will have time to accept a new result. |

OK, finally uploaded the result. I just left it to count down the time it automatically predicted and made sure that I'm connected at exactley that time. I think the server schedules automaticaly when it will have time to accept a new result. No, the server does not schedule time, it is a random exponential backoff. The communications problems are caused by the backup after the outage a couple of days ago. Uploads always seem to fare worse than downloads. BOINC WIKI |
