I just received this email from a friend. With the recent tragic events in mind and fearing that even the weather is out to get us these days, I thought I'd share it with you all. It kinda takes a whole bunch of us to make it work, and all big ideas start small. Following the disaster in London . . . East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a national "In case of Emergency ( ICE ) " campaign with the support of Falklands war hero Simon Weston. The idea is that you store the word " I C E " in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency". In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them. It's so simple that everyone can do it. Please do. Please will you also email this to everybody in your address book, it won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest. For more than one contact name ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc. |

Malvinas/Falklands asidenot that I hold a grudge or anything, pero son nuestras, ¡carjo!, it's a nice idea, but carrying some ID would be a bit better. I'd consider RFID tags as a thumb-ring, or as a wrist-strap (I'm not doin' subdermals). It's like holding down 9 on a cellphone keypad (That way when rigor mortis sets in, not only can't they steal your phone but the 911 operator will know for cretain that you're dead - beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeou get the idea) |

It´s look a goob idea. I have enough memory in my phone to "waste" it in some ICE´s records. Nothing to lose and a much to help myself. o0o0o0o0o0o0oo0o0o0o0o0o00o00oo0o0o0o0o0o0o0o o0o0o0o0o0o0oo0o0o0o0o0o00o00oo0o0o0o0o0o0o0o |

I’ve put an ICE entry in my phone because it tells the emergency services exactly who you want them to contact. About twenty years ago when I was an apprentice I had a small accident with an electric drill, all that happened was I lost my grip on the handle so it spun around and hit me on the back of the hand breaking a bone. The nurse in the medical centre at work phoned my mother at her work to get her to give me a lift to hospital to get my hand x-rayed. The way she described my accident to my mother was basically “Your son has had an accident with an electric drill and hurt his handâ€. The image my mother had in her head as she was driving to pick me up was of my hand being mangled by the drill bit. With an ICE entry you can avoid the wrong person from getting a worrying phone call i.e. they don’t call someone that will overreact or is a big worrier with a heart condition. Anthony |
