Boinc actually does nothing but load up and sit there.
Oh wait, it does tell me there isn't enough work about once an hour. But it doesn't bother to go get any.

I did the following:

boinc -attach_project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu KEY

Which is in none of the docs that I got. I had to find that on here. What's up with that?????

Here's the output I get from running boinc:2005-06-29 09:20:58 [---] Starting BOINC client version 4.43 for i686-pc-linux-gnu
2005-06-29 09:20:58 [---] Data directory: /shared/BOINC
2005-06-29 09:20:58 [SETI@home] Computer ID: ******; location: home; project prefs: default
2005-06-29 09:20:58 [---] General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 2005-06-28 19:52:52)
2005-06-29 09:20:58 [---] General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults
2005-06-29 09:20:58 [---] Remote control not allowed; using loopback address

When I run the gui thingy I get the following error:

connect: Connection refused
connect: Operation now in progress
init_poll: get_socket_error(): 111

So in order to not waste any more of my time or computing power, maybe womeone would clue me into how this thing is supposed to actuall work.

Thanks

Just a couple of sugestions

1) Try setting the permissions on all files and folders under your BOINC dir to allow everything for everyone and set the owner and group to nobody.

2) try starting the program with the following command

(cd "/BOINC" && nice ./boinc)
With "/BOINC" being your BOINC Dir under root

have you checked the folder permissions yet they are set for the user account that the program is running in and some times what happens is the client can download but it cant create the temporary file it needs to run them
