Unfortunately, My eldest daughter fell for such a scam. She did not tell her mother and I when it happened, she felt she was "in Control" of her finances. Well anyway, she recieved and email from a bank in South Dakota that told her bank had contacted them and identified her as one of their "good Customers"and that they were taking over ATM and Credit services from her bank (Never Mentioning Her Banks Name). They went as far as asking for her preference in Card design, number of cards needed/ And then the big stuff. "Please fill in the spaces with your account number printed on your ATM card, the expiration date, and your pin number. "This information will be verified and carried over to your new MasterCard Debit Card". Don't forget to include the 3 or 4 digit "security code" imprinted on the back of your card".
Nine days later, she got 4 returned check notices from her bank. After taking a trip down to her bank, she found out that her checking account had been overdrawn in excess of 2,000.00 (she had 1,000.00 overdraft protection) and her mastercard had 3100.00 in charges on it. The bank closed that account, issued a new account to her, however, she is out the money because, it was not the Banks Fault..it was hers for releasing the info. Her Banks Info, and website, in Bold letters tells it's customers that they will never ask to verify info through Email or By Phone. Only by direct Company Letter head in US mail, which needs to be returned to a branch, and not mailed back. She did not have to pay back the Credit card, she had insurance on that, but to this day, thee have still been no arrests or further developments in her case. This happened 13 months ago. (I hope she has learned from this)

Respectfully,

Rocky

Hi everybody,

sometimes it really gets bizarre. I recently got a mail from "ebay", stating my account will expire if I don't enter my password in a form supplied on the web. The english was absolutely perfect, no flaws whatever (but of course ebay would not send such a mail).

But the bizarre aspect was: it seemed to be a bad copy from real pages existent on the web but the authors didn't seem to really understand our alphabet. It looked something like this:

Dear cuslomer,

we need to inforin you thal your accovnt vvill exqire lf...

and so on. It looked like a bad scan generating lots of these terrible character replacements. If I had had the chance to look one of those guys in the face I would have loughed out loudly. So good and yet soooo dumb. Whoever got into that trap, I'd really like to know.

Regards,

Christoph

CR you should respond, but tell him you can not do it unless he joins your church (of what ever faith) and makes a donation to become a memeber. Along with the donation, make him send a picture of some stupid ritual (like painting a red "L" on your chest) to prove it.

I read a story about a guy who did this and got the spammer to send him both!

I run a share ware program intended to report Spammers to their ISP in the hope their activities will be stopped. I've been running it for almost 2 months and although the number decreased after the first two weeks it hit a plateau at around 100 a day.

The up shot is I'm ready to give up on my crusade to get back at spammers.

I've said this some time ago: One of the simplest ways spammers get peoples email is using programs to snoop for addresses from message boards, say like this one.

Well, there is one neat thing that can be done to fight usenet 'harvesters'. You do this by poisoning the webpage with all kinds of junk email addresses (CGI script) . So when the harvester bots scan a certain webpage looking for victim email, they end up with lots of infinate loops made by poisonous addresses instead that pollute their lists, haha.

Sorry to get off topic Ageless.

You've been spammed by a Bong.

Is it just you or does this guy seem to babble on and on without making any sense whatsoever? Does he lurch from one non sequitur to another? Are you baffled by his obscure metaphors? Are there so many typos you think that maybe he was typing while wearing a catcher's mit? Can he really MEAN what he just said? What in the hell is hey talking about, anyway? Is this guy smoking something? Well, yes...in fact he is, and lightly tethered in orbit high above the Earth Bong remains far beyond the grasp of the even the most powerful of Warriors.

Usually spammers just fake addresses. This "guy" used his real account. It was a lot easier for me to click the forward button than it was for him to go thru the new account signup.

Yeah, It would be nice if there was a list of spammer eMail addresses like the lists they get our eMail addresses from.
