According to BOINCstats.com there are about 175K people BOINCing (if I've read the stats correctly) some of whom may still actually be active.

Out of all those people, some frequent these boards for their reading pleasure (and occasionally to take part in the new(ish) sport of Developer Baiting).

Now, some of these people (this means you) must have been 'famous' or a 'celebrity' at one time or another.

This is the opportunity for you to re-live your 5 minutes of fame:

Have you ever had a walk-on part or been in a crowd scene in a movie
Have ever been in a band that played support for another band before they became big
Are you the person who served Bruce Willis with a Big-Mac the one time he drove through your Town
And many more

If you have any such stories that you would like to share, post them here.

**********************************

Ok, I'll start the ball rolling with this one:

Back in 1994/95 (?) I managed to get a non-speaking bit part in a British TV (Central Television) series called 'Family Pride' set in Birmingham (West Midlands, not Alabama); I appeared in episode 13 for about 3 minutes, where I had to do nothing but listen intently to a conversation about my character.

Does anybody recall seeing this series? Or me, I was wearing a yellow t-shirt I seem to recall.

**********************************************

I do have another story, but I don't want to release that ball just yet.

Now over to you.

When I was in the Military I got to brief Commadore Grace Hopper AKA The Mother of COBOL. After I got out I stood toe to toe with Jack Welsh (CEO GE) and won a major contract with GE for Data General

I have been on the news several times for one rescue or another.

I beleive that is it..

In 1983 ( was 20 that time ;) ) i was interviewed for about 5 minutes sitting in my Volkswagen Golf convertible for a reportage about young people dying in car accidents on the way to the discotheque or back on weekends. It was telecasted 1984 and repeated in 1989 on N3 (northern Germany regional broadcast station). Does that count?

BTW: Still have the copy of the consents statement i had to sign to allow broadcasting pictures of me ;)

You were on Tomorrows World!! You bet that counts, it makes you an uber-celebrity - people actually watched that show.
What year was it that you were on, were you in the audience, did you get to see anything?

As for 'Family Pride', it was an awful show it only lasted for one season but it did have Benny from the Cross-Roads Motel in it - he played the part of a foreman in a Meat importers factory (There used to be one in Digbeth, I think they actually used that one)

And yes the news on TV counts, if you've ever seen yourself in anything other than a mirror, CCTV, or Home Video, then it counts.

Oh cool. Well I was interviewed by them in 1999 as part of their programme. By Phillipa thingy....was fun. I refused Jeremy Paxman though for Panorama! I was too scared of him! So...I been on radio live and recorded and TV probably 30 times in all! Wow! Perhaps I am famous but no one knows LOL....hmmmm that's a bit difficult to take in...tautological perhaps?

Isn't that the same person who developed ADA, she was in the Navy I think?

It is really a bit unfair since I was a "Photojournalist" for a major Network here in the States plus I had my own small production house for a while. I will say some of my best memories would be of Singers as they were a little more open to the average Joe. Actors had always been a little more stand offish. The worst were Local personalities, they were the Biggest prima-donnas you would ever want to meet!.

Exactly my words! The worst "celebrities" you can meet, are the one's whose "fame" is so inferior, that you can hardly see it, and whose heads are so swelled, they can hardly see you! The real famous, some even world-famous people I have been around, are the most down-to-earth people you can meet!

I lived with a jazz-musician some years ago, and going out with him and his friends, when they were out playing, was a learning experience for me! To see how "interesting" I suddenly became, when people saw me arrive with the musicians and speaking with them in the break! Yikes!

And later when I did my own little piece of work, which earned me some fame in some circles, also got me in contact with the "groupies", people who thought they could be more than themselves, just by being seen in my presence, and being talked with by me! Some times I really wanted to shout at them to get a grip! They were not more or less for being with me!! I hated that!

[Edit: For Dan, I don't mind local celebs as long as they have a realistic size of ego! What I hate are local inferior celebs, who think they are worldstars! Again, when you have spent time with people, who really have a name known all over the world, and you see the humility most of them have, you start to wonder what "fame" really is!!!]

My 15 mins of fame was a BBC prog about me at the age of 13. I was the youngest ever holder of an R.A.C (Royal Automobile Club) competition racing licence. I won the British Regent Petroleum Go-Kart Racing Series racing in the "Adult" series.
After a test drive with a Formula 3 team at the age of 16 I opted to continue my education rather that continue in motor sport. I sometimes wonder if I had what it takes to be able to compete with the likes of Jimmy Clark, John Surtees, Jackie Stewart, Jack Brabham etc. I still think that I made the right decision though. Three of the boys against whom I competed in the Junior Kart series later died in various motor sports.
