Updating to the Boinc software is the most confusing thing I have ever had to do. The instructions are poor or nonexistent which is inexcusable. So can anyone help me with these questions? How do I set the preferences? I saw a post that says on the website. Is this correct and where? And is there a way for this program to dim my computer screen? And do my former units show up anywhere? Near the top of the screen, click on "your account" and log in using your account string (same one you use to set up the SETI account). In the middle of "your account" are General, SETI, and Forum preferences. General is where you set things such as how often your computer should contact SETI, how much of your hard disk is available, etc. SETI prefs are where you set the resource share allocated to SETI, if you run more than one project under BOINC. If you want to dim your computer screen, go to the Dock, click on System Preferences, then Energy Saver; click the SLEEP button, then slide the top slider all the way to the right to "never". Check the box "Put the display to sleep...", and then slide the second slider to whatever you like; I use 5 minutes. These settings will let your computer continue to run SETI 24/7, but after a few minutes, the display will go to a black screen. You can "wake up" the screen by moving the mouse or tapping nearly any key. C Join Team MacNN |

I found the settings and they seem fine, but I guess I am not happy with the way the program runs. I want to be able to see that the program is running, and then the screen dim like the old software. I don't want to use the Apple Sleep feature because of all the problems I have had with it. Basically, I am not happy with the direction it is going. It may be time to bail out. Thanks again, Guy |
