As far as I can recall I have never setup 2 seti accounts. But I seem to have 2

I have always used the same email address and would have seti a team designation for the account

One account has no team designation.
And surely I should have been warned that a account with same name & email address exsists.

This account appeared after the problems with cross project issues last october/november.

The only other cause I can think of is I did have a boinc alpha account. I never managed to complete a WU in 3 months so I gave up.

The 2 A/C number in question are

89658 - Appears to be the correct account for me with all current work going to this account.

7814311 - only has 36 Credits and has had no activity for a while.

Same-name accounts are possible, and it seems someone else have used the same name for his account as you. Amount of classic wu's are different between the two "Ian Thompson" accounts, and the one host on the other account is not similar to any of those listed on your account.

I don't suppose you ever have created two seti classic accounts either ;)

Everytime I got a new computer (5 since "95") I'd forget to take my Seti info off the old computer (password) before I stored it away. So I'd just create a new account. It never seemed to be a problem creating a new account with the same ID:Randy. If you look up Randy in the accounts area there must be hundreds or maybe thousands who have used this ID. 4 of them are mine. Well I finally wrote down my password and all the info I'll need when I transfer my info to a newer computer someday. I guess if I had kept the same account my WU's might be a couple hundred higher for Seti Classic and my Join date would be 1999 or 2000. But it's no big deal. In 20 or 50 years that couple of years will look like nothing and people won't even know what Seti Classic was. And for those of us who have Seti Classic on our signatures in 20 years....they will know we are "old geezers" with canes and wheelchairs. Or maybe the whole Seti project will be shut down cause we found ET and we now talk to them regularly on our "Stellar Phones".

Hi

Yes I did have to classic seti accounts. I can't login on one of them so I had to create a new one. But why does it have a boinc credit. The account would date back to 1999/2000 time. My newer classic acount tranfered the classic credit forward. But their is no way of getting to the old clasic account.

Ian, how do you know the second account was even set up by you? There could be two Ian Thompsons in the UK who both run BOINC. As Randy and Bruno said, names are NOT unique in the database. I believe there are several users named "Toby". The only way to tell for sure would be by looking at the email addresses but that would require you to be able to log in to both accounts.

Randy, seti classic did not require a password to install on a new computer. All it asked for was the email address you used to sign up. But I guess that is water under the bridge now :)

Ian, there are actually 6 accounts with your name on BOINC ;) 4 of them are from the UK, 2 of which have boinc credit ;)

Toby: haha just think of it, a Steve joins my team, and this Steve have no credit yet - now, trying to find that Steve's account number to enter in the local member database, a task that could take a couple of hours *lol* (just an example ;))
