Hi All

The following are 2 post which I placed on lhc@home

I should have known better as they are more useful to the boinc core client people.

I will add the install issue still applys to version 4.40

At the moment I am clearing all the work queues on the machine this includes 2 CPDN units (thank you:) )

It might be nice if a client is reinstalled it could rebuild it self properly as far as running and continuing work.

I would like to say again I have never has this issue until version 4.3x, downgradeing leaves the issues for clients use to work.

The main reason for upgrading was I like the idea of no new work. I would feel bad about collecting a wU and just dumping it. if changed machines around or O.S. I lost one CPDN WU after 99.94% completed (I was not chuffed).

Hi

On 1 of my machines I run Windows XP MCE2005
I get exception handler errors it fails to connect to machine when the manager software is run.

I have managed to get round the issue.

I run the boinc.exe with

boinc -allow_remote_gui_rpc -return_results_immediately

Hi All

I thought I would add these extra comments.

Firstly I work in the IT Industry and understand what MCE2005 is. I just happened to have it when I needed to reload one of my machines. I needed to evaluate it commercially.

A great concept, a poor implementation. (Signs of things getting better thou.)
Better digital TV support is a must. This issue is certainly putting me off and I wouls suspect a lot of others.

This aside things I have noticed.

1 - MCE2005 reports as windows XP
2 - The switches used was the only way I could get the gui manager to connect to the boinc core cli program.
3 - This problem is the core client not the project.
4 - LHC is the only project where the graphics works ? and with an ATI graphics card.
5 - I was suprised that the manager did not connect on loopback or localhost but does on the pc name.
6 - It is not unreasonable expect people with MCE2005 to attempt to run boinc after all. A lot of people leave their tellys on 24hrs.

The problem appears to be in the install

The clients appear to install ok over the top of 4.25 and run, when I rebooted the system boinc failed to connect to the localhost. After running the boinc.exe with the switches I got it to work.

Before this I had no problems with 4.25, I did try and downgrade but what ever the install did it now effects the 4.25 client.

The error message about grphics showing locally is a warning it does work. I presume you could display another PC's WU graphic. as this client is intend for network administration.

Then connect to local machine name

it does not always run when i state local host or loopback IP.

It also confirms if want to se the graphics on the remote machine if click show graphics even thou it is local machine.

I have also seen messages saying

there is work but commited to other platforms
