Hey guys-

I don't know of any other group who has experimented more with these boards... trying to break 'em, trying to push 'em to their limits, trying to find out what's wrong with them!

I spent most of today writing a pretty good sized forum code patch to both secure the forums a little bit more than they already were from things like SQL injection attacks and to fix a few little bugs that happen to be out there bugging me.

I'll detail what all the patch fixes in a later post... I'm tired now and Lost is about to start. :-)

Anyway, I'd *love* it if some of y'all interested in helping out could join my test project (it's just the php, no points or workunits or even an application) and test things you've noticed that were wonky in the forums. Also, look for any bugs I may have introduced with these cleanups... I already found at least two typos I've since fixed.

Break the Forum!

If you find bugs, either post 'em here or email me (rob@axpr.net).

Thanks. :-)

[b]EDIT: TO BE CLEAR, BREAK THE FORUM AT HTTP://BOINCTEST.AXPR.NET/ NOT THE FORUM HERE. :-)</B> ...additionally, you will have to create a new account on the BoincTest site in order to post to it, as it's a completely different site unrelated to Berkeley proper. :-)

You mean like overloading the thread with HTML to screw up the formatting of all the previous posts? Let's see if it still works...

YEP!

Rob, I can tell you why this happens. The post reached maximum characters in the middle of a html link so it couldnt close it properly because there werent any character space available to do that. So the open html changed the format of everything after that.

You'll have to reserve system-only character space at the end of the post to auto-close any tags that might have been left open and the text is maxed out.

P.S. If you can answer this within the edit time limit I'll clear it out. Otherwise I'll have to leave it so you can see it... Which will mean your initial post will be screwed but I think new posts will be OK.

Oh yes, I had forgotten about that bug. I'll give it some thought, as it's a different kind of beast than the others.

Uhhhh... could you please edit your post with all the graphics to not overflow? Thanks. :-)

But, I did not go incognito there....

Well, well.... I just now received it. What do you say now Mr. Fancy Pants?

Yep, even told him why it was happening, and how to fix it. Then I gave a screenshot of the second problem it created by not allowing an edit. I figured he'd have to remove it.

I've let Janus know about the issue, he may solve it before I get around to it. :-)

Issues I know of to date are listed here. And I pointed Janus to the thread.

Thanks for your help, guys. I'll let you know when I start messing around with chunks of code again.
