With Seti classic they had a URL for signal candidates and who might have gotten a hit for something interesting. Is there such a URL for Seti BOINC? |

Second that - would be nice to be able to see which "interesting" WU's we've done. After all, stats are all well and good but the goal IS to find ET right? Tomcat's Taekwondo Pages |

Keep in mind that the signal candidate list on the Classic site was done after they culled through the results from the first-half of the experiment, ran them through the verifier a few times, and got a list that was pretty clear of RFI and natural phenomenom. That list of 200 or so "interesting hits" were then taken to Arecibo for reobservation. BOINC-SETI hasn't been in operation for the length of time that would make it feasible or worth spending limited resources to generate a list of the same caliber and magnitude as the Classic list at the moment. Hence, no list like on Classic. It would be nice, mind you, but not a priority at all. |

I have been thinking about starting a thread, where we could post our most interesting signals, as there is no page on this subject, but never really had time to do it. Ah, well... |

Don't know if this is exactly what you guys might be referring to, but Reuben Gathright had an idea about users sending their WU logs to him. You could probly find out more about this from him. Here's a post from the Science board you could get some info on this from. |

Thanks for the info ponbiki. So right now, and for who knows how long, its just about who did how many units and who has the most credits and so on. Nothing is getting checked to see what the real intent of the project is? Im going to stop at 100,000 credits and hold off for the summer. Maybe by then they will let us know what all the work we do has some meaning. It gets awfully hot in this room with 4 machines running 100% in the summer. |

My goal isn't actually to find ET, I'm pretty much in the group that says "It doesn't exist, humans are utterly totally alone, and even if it did, we'd never ever meet them - seperated by too much time & space." Afterall, humans have only been around 6000 - 1 mil years, and +/-6000 to 1mil yrs of that as conscious, cognisant, rational beings ;p We've only been "looking" for ET the past 40 yrs at best. I just hope to see/find a cool and unusual pulsar, quasar, blackhole, etc signal. |

They definitely do exist. And it's worth proving that they exist. But you're right, we are separated by too much time & space. As the technology gets better though, even if we cannot communicate with them, we should be able to detect them. Imagine trying to detect a 100 Kilowatt TV signal from 100 light years away. This is the goal, it would be interesting to see what their idea of entertainment is. Of course, if we detected a planet like earth, there'd be 100s of these signals. However, meaningful communication is probably still out of reach. For one thing their "tv" programming we would be watching is from their 100 year old signal, long long out of fashion! Maybe they already blew themselves to bits in a nuclear war 20 years ago. Jimmy |
