According to the latest Science@NASA newsletter, some researchers believe that water may exist on the Moon. Even the giant Arecibo radar in Puerto Rico was used in part of the search. Full story: http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2005/14apr_moonwater.htm?list179066 An interesting thought and if true, could be very useful for creating a permanent Moon colony. To truly explore, one must keep an open mind... |

I remember haering about the discoveries by both Clementine and Lunar Prospector in the 90's, and also remember reading about the possibilities for a Lunar habitat because of the possible presence of water. I think there should already have been a more ambitious Lunar exploration plan to answer the question of wether or not there is really water on the Moon. |

One thing I never knew was that they crashed Lunar Prospector on the Moon in hopes of dredging out some last minute evidence of the presence of water. It would make more sense to me to create the first colony on the Moon rather than on Mars due to the closer proximity and better ability to monitor things. Once the groundwork is laid and the problems figured out, then head further out but I've been hearing more and more about a possible Mars colony and little about a Lunar colony of late. To truly explore, one must keep an open mind... |
