Hello I heard talkin' about a boincview that works with the boinc 4.25 but not with the 4.19. What's the boincview? Thank you.

There is a version that works with 4.19 and lower, and the newer one which is 4.20 and higher.

There were architectural changes and so ... two versions.

BoincView is very very cool!

I've been playing with it for a few days now after re-installing Boinc 4.25 as a service, and the combination seems to be working great. Much more functionality than with Boinc Manager, and i'm only running one host. I've noticed my WinXP (SP2) system in general seems a lot less sluggish now too, although i'm not certain if that's related to installing Boinc as a service, or of not using Boinc Manager anymore. Regardless, the responsiveness of my machine while running other tasks (Word, Excel, MSN, etc.) seems to have taken a turn for the better after making these changes. :)

Thanks,

It sounds cool, but I went looking for it, and at least at the time it seems that the web pages would not render in FireFox. I won't go there with I.E.

although sometimes I still use the manager. Reason: There are no tooltips or anything else to indicate what I'm about to do if I click a button in boincview :D I'm not going to experiment too much as I don't want to abort a wu or dettach by accident ;)

If you hover over the tool and look in the status line bottom left it tells you what the tool does.

Bruno, at least in the version i have (BoinView 1.03a) there are tooltips. They don't pop up as balloons, but when you hover over a button the tooltip is displayed at the bottom of the BoincView screen. I tell you this only because i overlooked it myself for a while, expecting the little balloon-type tooltips.

EDIT: Dang, Tigher beat me to it! LoL.

Pretty much the same as the BOINC manager. But functions aren't hidden behind tabs, and you can get an overview of all wu's etc on all your computers. And you can control all your computers without having to switch between then as you would do in BOINC manager. And then it's a different kind of display ;)

Tigher and Digger:

Cool, thanks :D didn't notice that - guess the status part of the screen (which I've minimized to displaying only one line) has diverted my attention too much :)

Thank you Bruno, that's alot more help than "It's Great!" ;-)

i had seen it on the add-ons, but never bothered with it because there was no real description about what it does.

if it's better than the boincmgr why get boincmgr? (am i missing something here?)

It's also a lot more user configurable than Boinc Manager (i.e. the information that is displayed, size of the window, column sorting, etc). The feature i like the best is being able to disable work unit downloads for a specific project, which allows you to deplete all of your work units (for instance, if going on vacation, or if taking a hiatus from one particular project).

It's easy enough to download and play around with. It won't interfere with your current setup or ability to still use Boinc Manager. :)

Well, the boinc manager is the standard manager that goes with the core client. So when you get the client you also get the manager and vice versa ;) I don't know, however, how integrated the manager and client are in each other.
