Hi, I had installed Boinc and run on Linux. It had processed some work units. After my home network was down, I restarted Boinc but it won't download workunits and process. Below is the messages displayed after I started Boinc. It says "No schedulers". I checked the server status and it shows that it is up and running. What's wrong with my Boinc? Please help. ---------------------------------------------------- 2005-04-08 01:32:36 [---] Starting BOINC client version 4.19 for i686-pc-linux-gnu 2005-04-08 01:32:36 [SETI@home] Project prefs: using your defaults 2005-04-08 01:32:36 [SETI@home] Host ID is 652613 2005-04-08 01:32:37 [---] General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 2005-03-17 12:18:47) 2005-04-08 01:32:37 [---] General prefs: using your defaults 2005-04-08 01:32:37 [SETI@home] Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi 2005-04-08 01:34:45 [SETI@home] Scheduler RPC to http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi failed 2005-04-08 01:34:45 [SETI@home] Scheduler RPC to http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi failed 2005-04-08 01:34:45 [SETI@home] No schedulers responded 2005-04-08 01:34:45 [SETI@home] No schedulers responded 2005-04-08 01:34:45 [SETI@home] Deferring communication with project for 1 hours, 5 minutes, and 44 seconds 2005-04-08 01:34:45 [SETI@home] Deferring communication with project for 1 hours, 5 minutes, and 44 seconds ---------------------------------------------------- -- Adrian Hoe -- Adrian Hoe |

Well I would check you have network connectivity. My logs show that there were no problems with schedulers at the time you were trying. Do you have normal Internet, email etc all working OK? What has happened since....still nothing? When you restarted your network was anything different....like firewall for instance. |

All internet and emails are working. My home intranet is accessible from outside too. I restarted my router too. Firewall? Boinc worked well with my firewall previously too. I have not mingled with my firewall for quite some time. Everything is running perfectly. I can't figure out why. -- Adrian Hoe -- Adrian Hoe |

The official URL is http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ not http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu |

> The official URL is http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ > not > http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu I think you are referring to the seti PROJECT url and not the seti SCHEDULER url; the problem the original poster has is that the client is not reaching the project SCHEDULERs. From my system... 2005-04-08 11:25:53 [SETI@home] Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi 2005-04-08 11:25:54 [SETI@home] Scheduler RPC to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded 2005-04-08 11:25:55 [SETI@home] Started download of... Checking the fqn being used (subtle difference in host name noticed), we see: [zardoz@badboy ~]$ host setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu is an alias for setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu. setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu has address 66.28.250.125 So, I don't think the scheduler url is the problem. Have you tried to reset the seti project or attach to it again? What happens? |

Well if the last advice of detach and re attach does not work I would get out an analyser and see what traffic is being sent to the scheduler and see what the response is. If you dont have one then Ethereal is great for Linux (FC3 I use) and windows. Do a google search for it. See if the packets are being sent and see if there is a response rather than assuming the fail message is anything other than just being a time-out. Also you will be able to establish if you are indeed getting the right IP address back from DNS. Do you run your own DNS? Is there a proxy involved anywhere? At least you will have narrowed it down a bit further. I say all this because you said it worked fine then your network crashed/outted and it no longer worked fine. If you need help with ethereal then let me know. |

I have a similar problem with both my linux machines and my Mac. After running seti for a few days, the scheduler repeatedly starts failing to respond, generally 5-7 days after a reattachment/fresh install. However, if I reattach seti, the scheduler immediately responds. Also, if I run boinc/seti afresh from a different directory on the same computer, again the scheduler immediately responds by downloading seti client and new WUs. I checked the preferences and the other files in the old and new directories: they are pretty much the same (except for the info on the WUs in the client_state.xml files). I cannot for the life of me figure out the reason for this strange behavior. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm using boinc 4.19 and seti 4.02. P@H on the same computers don't have the same problem. |

I tried to run boinc a minute ago and it downloaded 2 WUs and started crunching. I don't know why and how. I did not do anything about it. It just works! My boinc sends requests to scheduler at http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi. How can I change it? What exactly do you mean by attaching and reattaching boinc? -- Adrian Hoe -- Adrian Hoe |

Take a look at this to see the parameters you can use with BOINC. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/client_unix.php That says how to detach and re attach. Doing this just clears things a tad and lets you rejoin perhaps on a cleaner basis. When you first started BOINC it asked you for the project and you gave it the setiathome url...remember....well that was attach. It looks as though it now works if you have received WUs. Don't touch it LOL! |

I had this once in while. I left the program running and it would resume after a while. My boinc/seti is running again. I hope my wild guess is correct. :) The only problems I have now is that boinc is not running on my SPARC/Solaris (S9) and iBook/Mac OS 10.2.8. :( Best regards, -- Adrian Hoe |
