I recently noticed that my home computer is running off of work preferences even though it says it is using home preferences in my account. I tried to update it but it still continues to use the work preferences. Does anyone have a solution?

I even tried switching it to school preferences and back but no luck.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello rudabega,

what Boinc-version are you running?

It's an issue with the older ones, that should be fixed with the current 4.25.
If you wanna stick with the old, thre is a workaround nevertheless:

Here in this thread is the solution:
Here is a manual solution. Exit out of BOINC. Edit your client_state.xml file. Search for the host_venue tag set. If your file was like mine, there was no host_venue tagset. In that case add the following line

<host_venue>school</host_venue>

just before the last line which should be

</client_state>

Once you have saved the changes, restart BOINC and you will see it now uses the alternate prefs. This change will remain even after your projects contact the server.

Saenger,

Thank you very much for the help. I found that tag in the client_state.xml file but it was set to work and would not update to home. I am currently using version 4.19. I was under the impression that when a new version of BOINC became available that it would update automatically, maybe I am wrong. I had heard version 4.25 was out but that it was causing some issues that they thought it would fix.

But anyway, thanks again for the help. I would like to learn more about the coding form the BOINC platform for example what language is used for coding and where might I learn more about it? If anyone has any suggestions let me know.

You have to manually update your BOINC client. 4.25 hasn't caused any issues yet that it was meant to fix, as far as I know

I think you're thinking of seti 4.09 and seti 4.10 as far as that goes.
