Message 94808 - Posted: 4 Apr 2005, 16:36:36 UTC

Hello to everybody
in the night between the 1st and the 2nd of April I uploaded about 400 wus and i got only 280 credits. usually when I upload about 400 wus i get 12000 - 16000 credits.
what happened?
how can I claim that credits? Where that credits go?

:-(
All the wus that i've uploaded weren't expired.
Tnx for any suggestion and/or comment

Perhaps you were just the first to return results for these WU's and they are in a pending status for credit. There are lots of explanations. You have your computers hidden, so we can't look up the WU's you returned to see what might have gone wrong. Are you sure that you reported all of this work after it was uploaded?

In the message windows it was write the speed of upload, then I suppose I uploaded them, after all wus were uploaded I ask the Boinc to update the project seti@home and so I've got new wus.

Check your Work tab on the BOINC manager. Do these WU's still show up as 100% complete and "ready to report"? Right now nobody is able to report in on complete and uploaded WU's. If this is the case, they won't appear as complete on your results list and you won't get any credit for them untill they are reported in. That won't happen until they turn back on the scheduler services.

Even if they were reported already, there's some funny things going on at Berkeley right now, and it might take a while for things to get sorted out.

The wus were uploaded in a right way, the same way I all-time used to gain about 212,ooo credits; but in my account, in my result page (address like this http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/results.php? and so on) there are listed all the wus i ever get in contact, except the 400 wus that I'm talking about.
They are not mentioned. They are not tracker; that wus are like ghost. All the older wus are listed; all the newest wus that I Downloaded yesterday are listed .. but those 400 wus (they will expire I remeber the 7 April) are not listed.

I am sure something went wrong at seti'servers .. i'm sure. There is no other way to explain it.
Anyway I visited www.boincsinergy.com and I saw that the 1st April nobody got credits... no prob if 5 wus uploaded but 417 wus lost...
Bye amd sorry for my poor english.

Roberto,

I bet you a six pack, that your WU aren't lost, and that when whatever Seti is going through right now is over, that you're WU will show up and you'll be relieved.

It's my firm belief that 85 to 90% of all the Perceived BOINC/Seti problems are cured with patience. Sometimes the active monitoring of the project is a bad thing. LOL

Roberto,

Credit claims happen in 4 stages (4 parts).

1. Seti servers send a WU to you.
2. Your machine finishes WU.
3. Your machine sends WU result data to servers. (results of your crunching)
4. Later, your machine "reports" those results (tells servers, "they are there now, please look at them").

Stages 1 through 3 happened for your WUs.

Nobody can do stage 1,3,4 right now.

The results you finished (the 400) are on the seti servers file storage space.
The database of seti knows these 400 were sent to your machines.
When set servers start accepting stage 4 again, your machines will tell server they are uploaded.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did not make the report step!!!
I resetted all the hosts!!!!
Then in the work list wus with the label 'ready To report ' are no more there.

Is the same if after the wus are uploaded, I reset the project and after I say ' update the project'?
I'm start thinking that I shoudn't do ' reset the project'

In other words, what will happen if I upload the crunched results but I do not do the 'update project ' that produce the report?

When you reset the project, it discards all work done.

If, on the other hand, you'd just been a little more patient, they would have uploaded, reported and been granted credit.

When you think there is a problem, probably the best thing you can possibly do is simply wait 24 hours. There is a good chance that either:

the problem will fix itself

there will be a long discussion here, along with good advice

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel your pain.

The solution is to check the status page before taking action.

I also found out the hard way.

And, because the status page is from an internal point of view, checking this could also be a good idea. It's a view from outside the building.

That too.

I prefer to get the SETI news straight from Berkeley, though.

I wonder if there's a web-casting microphone...

Even so, the best thing to do is to be patient. If he'd just waited a day or so, life would have been good.

If workunits are showing "ready to report" and you do a "reset" or "detach from project" you will never get credit for them. The seti servers will not "know" you have sent the results in.

But after uploaded them, where they go without a update project command????

I have a question for you Bill (or whoever) out of curiosity. Since his results were uploaded to Berkeley prior to his reset (but not updated), what happens to them now? They are in fact 'physically' there on the SETI servers, so are they now just lost file fragments that will eventually be purged? I guess part of the reason i'm asking is that something like this effects not just the person who resets their account, but all of the other folks who are crunching those same units and will now have to wait longer for WU credit.
