The Virtual Memory and Write to Disk Trick does not work for me. Supposedly (Under General Preferences) if You devote a Greater percent of your computers Virtual Memory to the Project your time to complete Work Units will go down. Also if You write to Disk less often (Say Every 5 Minutes Instead Of Every 1 Minute) your time to complete a Work unit will go down too. Not so for me:( I have gone from 25% of my Virtual Memory to 75% and have seen no Decrease in time to complete a Work Unit. I have also gone from the Default Write to Disk every 60 Seconds to every 300 Seconds. Still with no Decrease in time to complete a work unit. I have a 2.8GHZ HT Pentium 4 with 512Megs Memory. I do 2 Work Units in 4 Hours and 25 to 30 Minutes no matter what I do to my General Prefs:( |

I do > 2 Work Units in 4 Hours and 25 to 30 Minutes no matter what I do to my General > Prefs:( The only time these "tricks" will do much for you is if Physical memory is full and you are paging information in and out of physical memory. If you have 512M or better of memory you will almost certainly not see a change. The checkpointing to disk is so fast that even if you did not write to disk it is not very likely that you would see more than a couple minutes at most. The only time the trick of not writing to disk might buy you more is if your disks sleep inbetween checkpoints ... |

Thanks Paul: I guess the only thing that might help me is More Memory (Like 1G Or 2G) or just a Faster Computer.
