Will the LInux BOINC run on the Playstation 2 Linux? and do you think its worth it? Will it do a work unit in any respectable time? Any views are helpful please thanks..... <BR>AMD XP3200+ <img src="http://boinc.mundayweb.com/seti2/stats.php?userID=2327&trans=off"><img src="http://petrus.homeftp.org/bws/counter_big.php?id=7828479"> <a href="http://homepage.ntlworld.com/paulandrew.odell/">MY SITE!</a> |

If you already have a linux kit, then I suggest giving it a shot. It's 300 mhz, but it's a different architecture than Intel. It also has an 'emotion engine' which is a graphics processor. You'll likely find it benchmarks better than a pentium2 of the same speed. Just guessing. |

Well, if you haven't got the linux kit yet, how are you with running linux? I'm ok with running linux, but compiling can be a nuissance sometimes. I haven't bothered compiling stuff since Redhat 5.2, and have opted for apt-get or rpm to update my hobby linux boxes, and have recently just used knoppix disks. I remember the redhat 5.2 days, and trying to compile stuff. Sometimes you just do a 'make install', and sometimes you have to do other voodoo to get something to compile. It can be frustrating. I suggest trying out compiling the boinc and seti clients on a x86 box to see if it takes extra voodoo and waving of rubber chickens over the pc to work. I think that you'll need to compile from source to get it to work, becuase it's a different cpu. |

PS2 has 32MB RAM, 4MB VRAM, and 2MB audio RAM. In addition, it contains the original 2MB of PS1 RAM. The "Emotion Engine" is the CPU, not GPU. |

White, wheat, or ET, the choice is yours. Think about how often your toaster is idle. What does it get, maybe 3 minutes of use per day? Put those extra toaster cycles to good use! |

What happens if I put pumpernickel in it? Do I get a blueberry muffin back? |

"Smart cards" represent more than half of the world's computing power these days. |
