Hi! I just downloaded BOINC today & installed it on my computer. Everything went fine untill I realized there is no screensaver! I get a window of a white page showing the application's name & progress time. It does not appear to have a tab or setting to activate the screensaver (unless this blank white screen window is the new screensaver?).

I must say I preferred the trendy little taskbar green satelite dish over the new "B" cueball one.

As well with SETI monitor I still have 3 uncompleted work units on file. I feel hesitant to uninstall SETI at home & SETI monitor with these 3 units still uncompleted. It would be just my bad luck that one of these 3 uncompleted units would have a "WOW" type signal in it & if I delete them it would be lost forever.

Please advise how I should proceed?

Thank you!

Actually there is a screen saver. It does not work if you have a password set on your screen saver though.

You can see the graphics by right clicking on the currently crunching WU, and selecting show graphics.

Eventually S@H1 will go away. S@H1 also is in the habit of sending the same WU to a couple of dozen clients just to keep everyone crunching. BOINC S@H will get the WU crunched exactly 3 times with a very few exceptions. The exception occurs if a WU is report immediately after deadline, but the replacement has already been sent but not returned (fairly unlikely, but not completely impossible). Therefore occasionally it will run out of work, and having another project or 3 as backup would be an extremely good idea.

1. Screensaver issue:

Right click on your desk top, choose Properties.

Choose the tab titled, "Screensavers".

Use the pulldown menu to choose "BOINC".

2. Reprocessing/losing old Classic WU:

As for "losing" WU's - BOINC processes each and every WU a minimum of three times. In fact it must be processed three times before ANY of the people who crunched that one get credit for it. So you don't need to "worry" about any of the old WU's (they've been recycled a bazillion times already anyway).

Hi folks,

I don't get any screen saver either. I have BIONIC selected as my screen saver and no password set, but all I get is a blank screen. I tried both with and without the BIONIC screen saver's "Go to blank screen" option but get the same results: a blank screen. I can see the graphics when I right click on this project and select Show graphics.

Running BIONIC Beta V3.20 and Setiathome 3.08 on NT4 sp6. This is an old and slow machine that has bene plodding through Seti diligently for years. I think I'll try selecting one of the other graphics option on my account preferences and see if the screen saver will handle that.

Any other ideas?
Thanks -- Danno in MA

I'm running NT4 as well and also can't get the screensaver working. Does anyone have the screensaver working with NT4?
