Boinc 3.19/Seti itself runs fine but is causing a conflict with other programs.
So far: PGPDisk (latest version 8.1) .PGD files can be mounted as drives and accessed through programs already linked to their contents, but are not visible in Windows Explorer. They cannot be dismounted without rebooting. An additional program, WinWeather, hangs on execution, and never appears on-screen, so I shut it down via task manager.

Both problems disappear the second Boinc exits.

Boinc: set to not run until 3 minutes after user activity ceases. Tests were run when Boinc was in its "user inactive" mode.

O/S: Win XP Home SP-1 with all the patches
Processor: Intel 2.66 GHz P-4
1 Gig RAM
AV: Norton AV 2003, configured to ignore Boinc folders/files
always-on internet connection

I moved back to SAH1 until one of you rocket scientists comes up with the obvious solution ;-)

You can add also ... BOINC GUI v3.19 may crash any Windows application when exiting!

You may try BOINC 3.20 to fix your issues.

Available at Predictor@home (http://predictor.scripps.edu/)

I'm presently trying it ... running fine since few hours.

To install the latest version download it from predictor. Close boinc down (so it is no longer in the system tray) and run the 3.20 installer. Once its installed it should relaunch Boinc. It should realise a change in version and rerun benchmarks. After that it will continue crunching what it was working on before you closed it down to upgrade.

Thanks for the quick response, but after trying it the symptoms remain unchanged. I'll wait for a few more Boinc upgrades and try again.
