I switched over to Boinc back in July 04 but got frustrated with the ups and downs of the system. I went back to Seti Classic and uninstalled Boinc. I don't have a lot of time to read and understand all that goes on here so I need some guideance and advice. As of today I have 3 workunits in Classic waiting to transmit. I figure now might be a good time to switch back over to Boinc. What steps do I need to take to make the switch? Will I lose the 3 completed WU I have waiting to transmit? What procedure do I use to uninstall Classic and install Boinc? Also, I have upgraded to Windows XP SP2 since I was here last. Will my computer info be updated too? Looking forward to Keepin' On Krunchin'! |

> As of today I have 3 workunits in Classic waiting to transmit. I figure now > might be a good time to switch back over to Boinc. > I'd wait until Monday evening maybe even Tuesday to switch. They're not accepting uploads right now, and this might frustrate you. > What steps do I need to take to make the switch? > Since you already have a Seti account, all you have to do is follow the link for existing seti classic peeps. Do not create an account. This has been done for prior seti classic users. > Will I lose the 3 completed WU I have waiting to transmit? > If you don't uninstall the Classic Gui or CLI you can send in those results later. > What procedure do I use to uninstall Classic and install Boinc? > Assuming you've already activated your account and followed those directions you'll already have installed Boinc. You can uninstall Seti classic via the windows "Uninstall programs" from the Control Panel. You don't have to uninstall classic, just don't run it anymore. If you do, your completion times will be roughly 1/2 of what they could be since both programs will share your CPU (dependent upon priority settings) > Also, I have upgraded to Windows XP SP2 since I was here last. Will my > computer info be updated too? > Yes indeed it will. You'll have to wait for all results from the "Results" page to be cleared before you can delete the old host. > Looking forward to Keepin' On Krunchin'! > Have a wonderful weekend hope this helps tony |
