Zone Alarm is picking up traffic to and from 127.0.0.1 as internet traffic. This is more of a ZoneAlarm bug than a BOINC bug. BOINC WIKI |

My employer dumped it because it had a habit of rebooting workstations spontaneously and I dumped it on my home network because a 'critical update' hosed the OS on one of my workstations and forced a re-image. You might want to find a better firewall product. Stewie: So, is there any tread left on the tires? Or at this point would it be like throwing a hot dog down a hallway? Fox Sunday (US) at 9PM ET/PT |

I have used ZA for many years on many machines and never had any trouble with it at all. Are there any other free reliable firwalls? |

Sygate Personal Firewall is a very very good one to use The Jedi Alliance - ^WarHawk^ |

Also try Kerio Personal Firewall 4. I have been using it for about a year now. Much easier config than ZA |

I've tried the others...and I came back to ZA...it uses the fewest resources. I also use AVG antivirus for the same reason. My motherboard came with PC-Cillin.hich also had a firewall and it used 10-20% more resources than Za and AVG. Don |

I'm wondering what happened to this 4.25 version that it's so huge. Version 4.19 is about 1.6MB and this 4.25 is about 9MB . . . ____________________________________________ |

You could use the Microsoft firewall, IF you're not paranoid about security. |

The big problem with the M$ firewall is that it doesn't block any outgoing traffic. Grant Darwin NT |

Outpost firewall is the right stuff. Just disable logging and it takes no more than 3M of RAM to run. |

Not enough control on in/out traffic. |

My Zone Alarm has never given me any problems, I'm surprised by the every 2 second connection which lasts about 1 second, which didn't happen with the 2.19 version. |

It's known to have problems after updates. I uninstalled it after it suddenly created networks that didn't even exist. |

I'm still using it, but the last times when an update is available, in stead of doing the update I start from scratch as I experienced problems I had if doing the update instead of making a fresh install. |
