One per CPU. Crunching more than one is actually a little slower (due to the time it takes for the OS to do context switching).

How can I set it to do more or less SETI files at a time? I am only running SETI on BOINC!

Are you running windows 9x OS? If so, this is an error if two are running at the same time. You need to change your Preferences on Your Account at the SETI site to tell it NOT leave the application in memory.

You have a P4 3.0G HT processor. HT processors look like 2 virtual processors, and you will run 2 simutaneously, if you leave Seti at default options.

Good one... didn't think to check his account/host/os info before responding and wasn't thinking HT.

A hyperthreaded CPU looks like you have a dual CPU machine. Two work units, one per "virtual CPU"....

If you mean actually running at the same time... you can't.

You can specify how many processors to use under Your account - General preferences. Choose edit and the on the line "On multiprocessors, use at most" specify a number...

Well, you can usually go into the BIOS and turn of hyperthreading, though I wouldn't recommend it, since your SETI throughput is much higher with hyperthreading on. As Holmis mentioned, you can go into your account settings and tell it to only use 1 CPU on multi-CPU systems. That will tell BOINC to only use one of your 2 virtual CPUs, and so only use about 50% of your hyperthreaded CPU.

I hope that helps...hyperthreaded CPUs are a little confusing at first, but they are quite good at doing 2 SETI WU's at the same time--about 30% better throughput than without hyperthreading.

Have 4 CPUs (real or virtual). Or 8, or 16, or 32, or 64 etc.

If you go to your account page, go down and click view computers, and then click on your hosts, then you will be able to see how many cpu's you have on each host
