Data migration glich? FYI: I've just started using BOINC and in reviewing my Profile/Account on BOINC it says I've been a member since 10/22/2001 however on SETI Classic it shows correctly my start date as 10/24/2001.

Mikey, Newbies do not generally get flamed for asking for help. I have seen a few, though, but because they have no clue and will not listen to people when given the help. Also, because they just go to any message board here for that help. There's a board called "Questions and Problems" where questions can be posted for help. Besides, how is starting a "Newbies" section going to help Newbies? I feel that the "Newbies" from Classic SETI aren't so Newbie anyway. We're all here to have fun, right? Happy crunching.... >:-)

Hi Bryon, And Thanx for the Welcome!

Yes, coming up on '6' yrs in '2' months. Where does the time go!? You'll probably be seeing alot more 'Newbies' migrating from SETI Classic, over here, (fairly soon), and 'Yes', they'll probably be asking a lot of Q's!

There are '3' kinds of Newbies...
a.) The Newbies 'just' coming into 'Any' DC Program.
b.) The (old), Newbies, w/like 25, 50, 75, 100+K worth of 'CLI' and 'GUI' WU's.
c.) The Old, (old), Newbies..., lol! 66y/o-(Like Me), 6 yrs (nearly) at SETI, and approx 2.5 months here at BOINC, (Just running 1 Box)..., Had to give up the other XP2400+, after it had Crunched just 1 (32.00), WU's..., Long story! That was 2 months ago and the ADMINS are still carrying it along, Like some 'Ghost' Box I no longer have..., lol! (anyone know how to get rid of it)? *No Delete*, and can't Merge it!?

Anyway, I'm 'glad' to be over here, but still have my 2 Fastest Boxes Crunching the CLI v3.03. Another Couple Hundred and I'll have '10K'.

..., and Bryon, just keep bringing us around, to the "Bright Side of the Moon", (when it, the (****), starts to fly), with your Positive Attitude!

Be talking to you...

It's a leap year thing. They didn't take leap years into account when calculating the registration date. I actually joined on 28 June 1999. It would be nice if they would fix that.

why dont we shut off setiboinc so the seti people with more computers than setiboinc can have more bandwidth and can calculate more data for science
lets not forget this is about science not who can crunch the most
but whoever can crunch more makes the science faster

also who cares about the bandwidth speed you get what do you think this is counterstrike?

its almost like your saying seti classic units are usless, which they are not
dont be jealous of people who have donated so much to this project
were all on the same page also where do you think those people are going to go when classic is done which do you think uses more bandwidth ??? i think i know the answer.

.... because BOINC provides the basic framework to do SO MUCH MORE SCIENCE.

Classic was a fantastic idea in 1999, but that was two standard eternities ago.

The problem with this idea is that seti/BOINC already generates more science than classic, even though classic runs more workunits. The reduction in redundancy more than accounts for the lower numbers.

[edit] Even though you were joking I felt this point needed airing.

re: stats logo, I found this: http://www.boinc.mundayweb.com/

re: info for newbies, and forgetters like me :)
I don't see sticky notes being used here.
just a thought.(not everyone likes to know all about what they do, so site searching would be far down list.)

Hopefully more sarcastic, rather than less.

Read comments from the admins: Classic is sucking up power, space, and human resources that need to be freed up for SETI/BOINC.
