Hey there,

I have tried to get a remote gui accessing my linux system running the latest public client avaiable for linux.

i have done both the following:

./boinc -allow_remote_gui_rpc > boinc.log 2> error.log &

and also tried creating a remote_hosts.cfg file with the hosts i want to be able to access the server in there.

Both methods get me a "connection refused" error

When displaying listening ports in a netstat on the machine the port its meant to listen on isn't listed there

the machines has no firewall (the machine is on a network.... and the gateway server runs the filewall for the network) so local systems should have access to any listening port on the machine

any ideas? am i doing something wrong? thanx

Yes, you're posting your problem in the wrong place.

You'd probably get a more useful answer if you were to post it in the unix section of the Q&A forum....The unix gurus would tend to keep an eye out there and they're the experts in this kind of thing.

It might be caused by the frequent changes in Ports used to GUI_RPC in the recent BOINC Clients.

V4.19 obeys to Port 31416
V4.25 obeys to Port 1043

Depending on what software you use, specific Client Versions also require a compatible Remote Software (e.g. BOINCview 0.92d for 4.19, while one must use BOINCview 1.0 for 4.25)

More help should also be available here :

remote_hosts.cfg is created in the boinc directory of the host to be controlled. It contains the machine name or IP address of each machine allowed to controll this machine one per line. I could not tell from your post whether you were creating the file on the controlling side or the controlled side. BOINC then needs to be restarted.
