Don't try this at home.. it runs very slowly, and probably confuses the servers.

Ok.. running knoppix.
Copied boinc folder to a new location where knoppix can access it.

from a command line, ran
wine boinc_gui.exe

And voila! Success!
(And a really really really slow running gui.)
Definitely not recommended for 'power crunchers)

Update: I don't think it works. I think it crashed midway through a work unit and gave back a bad result.
It was fun to try though.
