I've installed the new program, and am running it. I don't show any credits in my acct. I've completed 1620 under the old program, but not important, just want to know should I remove the old program from my computer or allow it to continue running too ?

depends.. right now they don't seem to have figured out BOINC isn't working, so if you want to keep helping, i'd suggest you keep the classic client running.. i assume any WUs will be transferred at the time Seti classic is taken off-air. running 2 programs simultaneously sort of seems to defeat the purpose, though.

Thanks for responding, I have been running the classic Seti all along, but since last night it suddenly can't connect with the server. Maybe they pulled the plug.

I agree, I can't see where BOINC is that much of an improvement. But then again I am running several of the BOINC programs so my results are a bit slower since each takes its own turn with the processor. One thing I wish they would do though would be make it simple to erase all the messages it keeps sending me about it is stoping or starting what ever.

Again thanks for the response

The link to the data server for both classic and S@H BOINC is down. BOINC is mostly an improvement from the science point of view. You get new science code when it is ready, and not when you get around to noticing. Cheating on the stats is much harder. Other projects can share the same hosts and get CPU time without conflicting. There are improvements, just not to the simplicity of installation.

Yes, I'm keeping my SETI@home Classic program on disk too. It doesn't run because I've now selected BOINC as my screen saver. If I want to run SETI Classic manually, I'll just click the icon on the toolbar. However, I don't plan on running SETI Classic any more. BOINC SETI is kind of running on my machine now. I will just wait for BOINC to start functioning properly and things to smooth out. Then, especially if encouraged by SETI staff, at some appropriate point, I'll delete SETI Classic. Anyway, that's how I plan to handle it.

After installing the new Bionic stuff I too now cannot run my SETI.

I only installed the Bionic as my PC had a problem; I had to reinstall SETI, and could not. The best version I could find was V3.08, or something, others here are talking of V4+.

Can you offer any help on either:

1: How to get may old SETI working again?

Or

2: How to get this Bionic to work, as at this time I cannot get either working.

If not do you know how I can contact SETI, as I cannot find any help from these help forums.

Many many thanks for any time, and help you can offer.

Cheers Vaughn UK

Dunno, never ran it. But I know that they don't run fine together on the same puter (from other posts).

The (very good) manual for Boinc is the BOINC Powered Projects Documentation by Paul D. Buck and the FAQ therein.

A quick installation guide in this is here and for windows go here, for –ux go here afterwards.

As for the recent contact problems, look at the news section of the Home page.

Happy crunching!

The Seti classic is still running on my machine, although it is running slower since starting the BOINC Climate Prediction. All seems to be running fine on my computer.

SETI@home classic has a higher priority than BOINC, therefore, if both programs are running classic will out-prioritise BOINC and BOINC will not process workunits effectively, however if you run it on screensaver only mode this will not be a problem.
