There have been many studies about how the s@h could benefit from either cpus. Some have called in amd others have called in intel. What I have learned thru the years is that a "large" L2 cache really does the trick. Test have shown that a smaller cpu with a larger L2 chache, can get as much work done as a faster cpu with a smaller L2 cache. The Prescot really does it both Best regards / B52 |

This is easily proven in CPDN WUs. I have a 2.4G HT, and a 1.8G P4, and the 1.8G has a lot larger L2 Cache, and is doing to WU in a little faster time. So, for the larger WU it can be better cached, and worked on a lot faster. My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

For whom it may concern: The new 6xx prescotts with 2MB L2 and EM64T are out :o) Regards Hans |

Here in Germany the 630,boxed,3Ghz is about 46EUR more than the 530J, boxed. If you take the cost for a whole PC (roughly about 400-500), the difference isn't really that much. Regards Hans |

Is yours not? This machine manages two workunits in 12,000 seconds... http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=438946 |

No, BOINC runs two seti's :) because BOINC sees a system with a HT processor as a system with two processors... |

I honestly didn't expect a Prescott running an OS that doesn't support HT.. but some do, as this shows. :) I myself had problems finding drivers for mainboard and peripherals for windows versions prior to XP... |

I first wanted to suggest to get a cheap Winnt CD on ebay, but I've no idea if it will run OK with his hardware. Regards Hans P.S: Linux is another option of course.... |
