It's been released for Windows clients but there's no comments on the front page or in the technical news section.

Hard to say for sure. But my best guess is that it has to do with the screensaver or graphics generation as it is only in the Windows version.

There has been some discussion og issues related to them in the BOINC Developers mailing list.

I didn't make/build/release this version, but I can tell you the executables are exactly the same - this version is just a repackaging of the previous version. Maybe the other guys will post a tech note or something when all platforms are updated (or maybe they'll skip that step when they actually implement the latest wave of bug/feature fixes in the next real build).

So.. nothing to see here. Move along.

The only thing new in 4.09 is that the jpeg file
(as well as the executable) has a digital signature.
This is to make it work with the latest core client,
which requires that all app_version files be signed.

However, there IS a new SETI@home app around the corner,
with some algorithm changes and support for graphics on
Mac and Unix.

4.09 displays screen saver graphics with BOINC 4.2x. 4.08 does not.
