For those of you that are using the BOINC Client that keep having problems downloading new work units, try the following: click the Projects tab, then right click your SETI@home project and click Update. Do this every ten seconds or so. Try doing this a dozen times, or until the server finally responds and uploads to you.

That would really flood the connections to the server i guess... my guess it would make it difficult to connect to the server in the first place and put more strain on it.. and the poor thing is already having such a hard time. :)

I have my own solution. Attatch to another project.

If you don't want to, then that's your problem, not Seti's fault.

I guess that it would be a bother in that case nairb, but there isn't much else to do about it. Besides, the BOINC server needs to get used to this kind of load since it will soon take over more work from the other SETI. Am I wrong somewhere?

Relax Matt. Actually, I never said that I had a problem, nor that SETI was at fault in the sense that you were referring to. I was just offering a simple workaround solution for those people that were logically frustrated about not receiving any work units for a long period of time.

Spamming the server with RETRY requests is hardly a fix. It slows down the server for everyone and defeats the purpose of a client that sets delays on reconnect attempts.

When ever SETI BOINC has trouble or is out of work I just start doing work for SETI Classic again till I get more BOINC WU to Crunch.

Better solution would be to stop boinc, wait an hour, restart it

you'll not get it exactly at an hour, so you'll randomize when you connect.

J just downloaded 13 WU's again 2 hours ago. I think a lot of people are building a queue, that's why the server is still running out of WU's to send.

No need.
BOINC itself backs off when it can't make a connection.

Using one of BOINC's built-in functions is not quite "spamming" Matt. Spam is unsolicited e-mail advertisement. I didn't say that people should try to Update a thousand times, just a dozen man. The server operators must expect this type scenario.

Clicking "Retry Now" is about the only solution, if you're using dial up. Otherwise you're forced to keep signing on every hour in hopes of getting work. Many don't have the time to sit around waiting to sign on each hour. Unless someone wants to pay for my time, then I'd be willing to wait.

(actually I have work for my puters, so this hasn't come up yet, but it might)
