Hi,

why is there written "AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2800+"? I hate this AuthenticAMD. And how can I make it, that there is only written "AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2800+"?

If you want to get rid of the "AuthenticAMD" part, then dump that rattle-trap and buy a Pentium. :)

Ignorant response to a simple and valid question. I guess anything goes just to get your post numbers a tiny bit higher.

A wise man once said, "If you can't take a joke, then fuck you."

In other news, I don't see YOU posting anything constructive either.

HI,
Mine are listed as "AMD Athlon(tm) Pentium" and "AuthenticAMD Pentium" which are 2800 and 3100.
I am so glad i did not get the fake AMD's.

Does authenticity really matter for a user? There aren't any "genuine ppc"s, and I don't see Motorola and IBM up in arms about it...

It only makes a difference if you're a CPU manufacturer and vendor. The end user doesn't give less than 2¢ about it.

Just be happy that you were recognized as being an AMD and get over it.

This isn't about technology, it's about marketing.

The processor reports "AuthenticAMD" as part of the version information in the chip.

... probably because Intel parts return "GenuineINTEL"

But before I have installed BOINC 4.19, there was written "AMD Athlon XP 2800+", and now this fucking "AuthenticAMD". This maybe have to do something with boinc...

Now I understand what you meant: I thought you were referring to manufacturers' mucking about with the CPU ID.

Welcome to the cruel cynical world of "Marketing", and you are yet another ignorant sheep to be exploited and fucked.

Look up the CPU ID for yourself and see what you really have got.

Meanwhile, if it works, then it must be working as you expected, despite how the "Marketing Fuckers" lie to you.

Good luck,
Martin

That's the result of the new CPU ID code of BOINC 4.19 AND 4.6x. Since there were many CPU with a string like "Unknown pentium", they changed it to know at least what type of CPU it is. This is important to projects that use homogeneous redundancy, like Protein Predictor at HOME, since people with the "unknown Pentium" weren't getting work to do.

PS: You should have used the search to find similar topics, and not post this in the Science Board, since it has nothing to do with it.
