I read where some people were asking which cpu or OS has done the most work so I decided to thow these quick and dirty pages together.

I am sure this information is on some of the fine stats sites already out but I didn't see it.

You can see the info here.

http://www.tlmartin.com/boincstats

I'll add sorting options this weekend if they are of use to anyone.

Enjoy.

Nice. Thanks for posting this!
Maybe you could distinguish between the various linux flavours, too.

Nice work :)

Interesting to see that (so far) I'm the only one employing Silcon Graphics IP22 and IP26 Systems *g*

could you also add an average for everything?

I may enhance it some as I have free time. There are so many great stats sites out right now there is no need in me starting another one.

I threw these pages together because they show how much work has been completed by each cpu/os type and on a per cpu/os basis. I didn't see that on any of the other sites. I am sure it must be there and i didn't see it though.

Basti,

Maybe I just don't get it. But I did not see what I would have expected.

Bottom line for me, is which CPU is the most effeective, not just the one that racks up the most numbers.

Or did I just not understand the presentation?

See, I will be buying Macintosh now to get my real work done, but I may have "free" cash available to buy a CPU on sale to rebuild a system, and it would be oriented towards only doing BOINC.

I think to get there you are going to need to do a lot of slicing and dicing. It would also, once you get efficiency numbers, to move on to see if there is a difference between processors and projects. Or AMD best for all, AMD best on EAH, Intel best on SETI, etc.

If I wasn't mathematically challenged I would be looking to do something like this ...

Just a thought, we hav statistic sites for participants to see their totals and their stadnings, we have documentation dweeb, we have optimizers (still not done with any that I have tried with any success), and now, you ... the hardware statistician ... :)

The column to the far right on the CPU page would show the processor that is most efficient.

Hi Paul,
CPU efficiency depends a lot on what you have to pay per kWh :o)

If you only look at hardware cost, a 3.2Gig Prescott P4 (FSB800, HT) might be the best bet.

If you have to pay 15ct/kWh, like me, the new Pentium-M Dothan gets interesting.
The mainboards are a bit expensive ATM, but prices are falling.

Regards Hans

Hmmm, to be honest, since I can't shop for the electricity, I go for the gusto ... I mean, you are talking eff per KW, which is a valid metric. I was looking more at the current debates over the AMD 64 bit chips vs the Xeon, vs PowerPC ...

This is one of those things that intrigues me, though I can't really pursue it ... I was thinking that, say I had 1-4K and was NOT in the market for a new mac, what would be the best one to try to move up ... like I have 5 Dual processors (HT on most) and one 2.8 GHz Intel ... which would be the one on the chopping block ... what would be the best, and you are right there is a spectrum

Life cycle with power
pure computer cost only
best value balance life vs buying cost

and i am sure moe tooo... drat typing gone ... see you tomorey

Zeeno has inspired me to add these stats to my stats page.

I have just finished (well atleast the first version) for CPU type. Operating system will follow this afternoon.

http://www.setisynergy.com/stats/cpus.php?project=sah

You can sort by most fields across the heading coloumns. Happy to take comments.

(thanks for the inspiration Zeeno, so many things to do... just not enough time)

I added sorting. In the process I realized that there was an error in the calculation per cpu. It was actually per machine instead of taking into account the number of cpu's per machine.

It appears Zain's is showing per machine as well.

Is the list supposed to have doubled entries? I see OSs being listed twice at a time...

Nice stats :)

But what about sorting by CPU Family, would that be possible ?

e.g.
intel Pentium / 2 / 3 / 4
intel Celeron
AMD K6 / K6-2 / K6-2+ / K6-III / Athlon / AthlonXP / Athlon64

etc...
