Is this version good? Or more tests are needed?... |

> Is this version good? Or more tests are needed?... > I just downloaded this version. During installation it'll detect if you have an older version running. If so the older version has to be uninstalled. This is where I stopped further attempts to try this version. If I uninstall my current version I have to drop about 10 WUs... Happy crunching |

> Is this version good? Or more tests are needed?... BOINC 4.60 is an Alpha version, still in heavy development (in the last weeks the code changed almost daily). Use it at your own risk. SETI@home classic workunits: 1,985 CPU time: 24,567 hours Professor Desty Nova Researching Karma the Hard Way |

Exiting the Core Client, making sure all applications have stopped (Task Manager), then uninstalling the old CC and installing the new CC won't drop any WUs. Yet, since 4.60 is alpha software, you are using it at your own risk. If anything does go wrong, it's your own fault. |

Having said that, i have been running 4.60 for a couple of days now and it provides some fairly handy new features (such as selective suspension of work). Only problem i have found on my PC was a single occurance when the CPDN app. continued to use the CPU after work had stopped on that project and had moved to the next one. I have also heard reports that the graphics for Einstein have stopped working in 4.60, though i can't back up those reports as they are still working fine with my PC. I'm running Boinc 4.60 now since the time it was released. On 3 out of 4 PC's I had problems with the benchmark (frozen messages tab or boinc crashing), on 1 PC the screensaver is crashing windows. Only 1 PC had no problems. But the Einstein graphics do work. :-) |

Does Boinc 4.60+ still write files to C:\\Program Files\\Boinc ? This is a major no no in the windows world. I run as a normal user (not administrator) and so when i install Boinc 4.13 on my computers i then have to grant the machineName\\Users group access to write to the particular folder. They should really be writing any application data to C:\\Documents and Settings\\All Users\\Application Data\\Boinc and that way none of this would be necessary |

Writing user data in the program files folder is a no no, in BOINC's case the data being written to the BOINC folder is global in scope. Any user executing BOINC would be processing the same set of workunits. We are trying to stablize the Dev branch so that way we can provide the ability to install as a service, or if you install as a single user, the installer will adjust the permissions on that folder for you. ----- Rom BOINC Development Team, U.C. Rom, My specific problem is that if i install Boinc 4.13 as an administrator, the Boinc folder (& subsequent files downloaded) will grant the Administrators user group full access, however the MachineName\\Users group will only have a few privilages (Read & Execute, List Folders, & Read). When I log off as administrator and login as my normal user account [or any other non administrator account) Boinc throws 2 errors whilst starting up (which disappear if i grant Write access to the Boinc folder): Dialog 1: "Boinc Runtime Exception - 108 File Operation Failure. Failed to reopen stderr for diagnostics redirection (overwrite) Filename: \\Boinc\\src\\Main\\boinc_public\\lib\\diagnostics.C' Line '79' Dialog 2: Failed to cleanup the Windows socket interface Whilst every user will process that same files low privilage users cannot update these files under the current setup if an administrator installs boinc. andrew |

Well, under the new installer, you can choose the shared-user installation which will configure the BOINC folder so that any user on the system can modify files in that directory tree. ----- Rom BOINC Development Team, U.C. Berkeley My Blog |

yeah i'm with bundyrum on this one, with an early install of BOINC (way back when) i had it running from the program files directory, but found i had trouble running it from any account other than my administrator account. thus i relocated the program to the \all users directory and the problems were solved. recently thought i upgraded to the beta version and yes, this problem is fixed well enough that i am running BOINC from the \program files directory. Just as an aside, upgrade now to 4.62. ;-) Kolch - Crunching for the BOINC@Australia team since July 2004. Search for your own intelligence... |

If nobody else has any problem, I would appreciate a link to download it (if it's too buggy I can always revert). I always see a link to the downloads page with ?dev=1 appended, but it never adds anything to the page. <a href="http://tinyurl.com/9hemz"><img src="http://www.boincsynergy.com/images/stats/comb-1441.jpg"></img></a> |

<blockquote>yeah...it seems to be based off of 4.25 and can't connect anyways so I'm going back to 4.35</blockquote> Version 4.25 has been working very well for me (and quite stable) since it was released. It's only been out for a little over two months, so i'm a bit confused as to why you consider it so old and outdated? Dig |

Dig</blockquote> Generally, what I am looking for is a possible graphics fix for E@H, but also functionality features. In 4.35 v. 4.25, the former has a statistics tab, and a better interface altogether (buttons instead of links) <a href="http://tinyurl.com/9hemz"><img src="http://www.boincsynergy.com/images/stats/comb-1441.jpg"></img></a> |
